"Live simply... so others may simply live"

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

- Albert Einstein 1930

Earth Wisdom & Spirituality

Earth Wisdom and Earth-based spirituality, in their simplest form, can be seen as a deep reverence of Life. They are a marveling of the natural world around us (and within us), in all it's beauty and incredible complexity. And yes, this reverence can lead us to feelings of awe and wonder, a state that some may describe as a 'religious' experience (though it is an experience that expands the mind and comes with no strings attached!).

One of the reasons we have decided to share this perspective with our visitors is that, in our view, being more environmentally responsible and living sustainably is only half of the picture (although to achieve this does imply a level of Earth Wisdom). Recycling in the hope that it will avert global climate change and make it easier for us humans to survive is in itself not a holistic and sustainable approach and would ultimately be self defeating (though it is a starting place). We feel that it is more sustainable to cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world, a comprehension that all of life (including ourselves) is sacred or special, and that all of life is related. Trying to save the planet because we can relate to and care for all of life is maybe then a more appropriate way forward.

There is also a depth of knowledge and wisdom in the natural world (that the term Earth Wisdom implies) that holds the potential for discovery, both of ourselves and of life itself. One organisation that we are involved with that holds a deep understanding of Earth Wisdom is the Ehama Institute of New Mexico.
